Building a leadership pipeline involves several principles. It involves formal leadership training that is conducted by proven and respected leaders. It is more than this however. It is a matter of seeing is believing. Watching how other leaders successfully lead their members is powerful. This is accomplished through peer leadership. When leaders can take away the best techniques and proven methods that they have personally witnessed as being effective for other leaders, they become the next generation of effective police leaders. When the new leader is provided these opportunities coupled with the internal advancement opportunities, they have the motivation to practice the quality leadership that they have learned. They now want to practice the effective and quality leadership that they have seen and learned!
