Season 4 remains the best season, with season 5 the worst.
Seriously, season 5 had more bad episodes than any other season for me. I'm honestly disappointed we got season 5 the way it was right after season 4. I think maybe... five or six episodes were good in season 5, but nearly all the season 4 episodes were amazing.
As for the others...
1 was meh for me, I love it, but there were some awkward episodes that didn't sit well.
2 originally was my favourite season for most of the show's run up until season 4, so no comment.
3 is honestly my third favourite season (no irony here). Magical Mystery Cure remains my favourite season finale for many reasons and I love almost all the episodes (Spike At Your Service being the exception).
4 and 5 I already stated my opinions on.
6 might be my second least favourite season, ironically enough, because a few episodes made my top 20 list. Too much Starlight Glimmer, not enough Celestia.
7 Celestia featured episode(s) and Fame and Misfortune. 'nuff said.

Season 4 was fantastic (especially that god-tiered finale) with 7 season being a close second. Season 6 was probably the only bad season, with 3 being decent at worst. 6 just left a really bad taste in my mouth, and after almost every episode I left feeling terrible.
This show has improved drastically.

I've a massive fan on FIM, just as much as the next guy. But after S6 i was really burned out of the show. I was no longer watching every episode as soon as it came out. I felt as though we were past the show's best days. Missing out on great 2-parters and great music really felt like a large part of the show was lost.
Going through season 7 i felt the same way, but then i heard the synopsis for A Perfect Pear [not spoiling it here] and just immediately launched myself straight back into the show.
So many great individual episodes.
The season arc leading up to the finale was fantastically done, and i can't believe i didn't see it sooner.
The actual finale itself felt incredible. It's been so long since we've had a proper adventure.
And the movie came out right around the same time as S7 ended, so i've really shot straight back into the fandom.
[It's just a shame that we've just started a mid-season hiatus]
In any case, seasons 6 and 3 were the lowest performing, while seasons 5 and 2 were the highest (with seasons 4 and 1 as regular). I'm currently in a season 7 post-hype bias, so maybe it would count better as a middle ground.

@Memebyerin Your description of season 7 intrigues me. I literally quit watching MLP after the first half of this season 'cause I didn't think it was worth spending the money on iTunes anymore. Figured I could wait until it was all posted up on Netflix and then sub for a month to see the rest, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe I gave up too soon.
I went with Season One since that's the season I remember the best and the one where I was nervecited while waiting for each new broadcast.

1 = Oldschool. Some seriously good episodes. Some seriously bad episodes.
2 = Oldschool, but with a huge bump in quality. Not to mention 2 of the best 2-parters in the same season.
3 = Lot's of good, lot's of bad, and Equestria Girls 1 in place of half a season. Height of the fandom, low point of the show
4 = Best Season. Best season long arc. Some of the best 2-parters. Some of the best singular episodes. Great transition from Twilight the Student, to Twilight the Princess. Golden Era for the show.
5 = Close Second place best. Great season long arc. Introduction of Starlight. Yet more of the best singular episodes of the show. Still Golden Era.
6 = I personally really didn't like S6. Too many filler episodes. Not enough Daniel Ingram. Not even meaningful episodes. And a really awful Opener.
7 = First half = Awful
= Second half = Astounding
= Literally no season opener. Began with pointless filler episodes. Then you suddenly got loads of '10/10' episodes, ended with possibly the best finale ever.

Def. voting for season 5. I do love that many love season 7 tho. 7's place will depend on how I feel when I rewatch the whole series. But right now I would say
5>1>7=4=6>3(handicap)>2

I thought season 5 and 6 were the best, I thought that they had really substantive but still fun episodes. Though, season 4 and 7 were really good too.

If I would have to rank them, my order from best to worst (least best) would be:
4>5>7>2>6>1>3
