The problem is that by raising the minimum wage they are making the middle class worth less which is putting an even larger gap between the poor and the upper class. What they really need to do is go after the CEO and other corporate big wigs and put a cap on their salaries.

Minimum wage was originally for retail, part time. Mainly high scool students and college students. I worked through high school and college making between $1.25 and $2.00 an hour. I managed to pay my college tuition, and rent (6) roommates. I worked my way up in the world, and did not expect the world to cater to me. Today's high scool students wouldn't think of picking vegetables in the fields or working convenience stores. That is why we have so many illegals in this country since the are willing to work, but minimum wage doesn't pay rent or other necessities. We need to start making our youth accountable, teach them to work and become part of society. Hiring minimum wage WILL NO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

David, because companies no longer reward employees with merit based pay increase. And if they do it's once a year for maybe .15 to .25 cents. Meanwhile, the same companies show record profits and reward their executive teams sometimes with millions of dollars in bonuses yearly. I say raise the minimum wage and let some of this money finally reach the folks who need it the most. I find it funny and sad that people are upset over this yet ignore the corporate thieves.

IF THIS PROPOSAL BECOMES THE LAW IN MASSACHUSETTS, LOOK FORWARD TO MANY SMALLER RETAILERS CLOSING THEIR DOORS OR RAISING THE RETAIL PRICE OF A GALLON OF MILK OR LOAF OF BREAD TO $12.00 EACH TO COVER THEIR INCREASED LABOR COSTS. IN ADDITION TO THE EMPLOYEES WAGES INCREASING, THE COST OF WORKERS COMPENSATION WILL INCREASE PROPORTIONATELY ALONG WITH THE EMPLOYERS SHARE OF MEDICARE AND F.I.C.A. TAXES. THIS WILL CREATE SUCH A DOMINO EFFECT THAT WILL AFFECT EVERY ASPECT OF EVERYONE'S QUALITY OF LIFE. INSTEAD OF SOCIAL ENGINEERING, WHY NOT LET FREE ENTERPRISE AND MERIT PAY RATE INCREASES BE THE BUSINESS CATALYST NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS.
