    LOL. Excellent point, @Arcanite!

I went ahead and put Brother & Sister because I always kind of got that vibe. But the truth is "other" is probably the most accurate answer.

Why is Friends not an option.... FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC GOD DAMN IT.

I'm amazed that 'Owner and pet' is at the bottom of the voting, since that's actually canon for Equestria Girls.

Having said that, I think FiM's Twi and Spike have a Big Sis/Lil Bro relationship.

I've only ever seen their relationship as big sister/little brother, especially ever since he woke up in Winter Wrap Up back in season 1, declared "You're not Mommy" when he sees Twilight, and goes back to sleep. They're close enough to be family, but Spike is comfortable enough around Twilight to call her on her nonsense when she's freaking out.

    I put "Other".

He's somewhere between "Roommate / Flatmate" and Personal Slave. The relationship isn't equal or badgering enough to be a sibling companionship, and it's not doting or caring enough to be a mother-son relationship. Spike is too useful, talkative, and reliable to be considered a pet; he's not there as a guide dog or to amuse Twilight. I'm really glad a shipping option isn't there, because they're certainly not a couple either.

Overall, very unique and interesting relationship for sure.

I have not the slightest doubt that Spike is Twilight’s slave. Them calling him her “assistant” is just to keep heat off the program, but is not fooling anyone who has been paying attention.

I see Spike as Twilight's valet or manservant. Like Jean Passpartout to Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days.

Their relationship is difficult to describe in just a few words. When Twilight was a filly and Spike was newly hatched, they had an owner-pet relationship that grew into a sibling relationship. But since Spike ages much more slowly than ponies do, Twilight's taken on more of a surrogate mother role. So she's kind of a big sister, kind of a mom to him. Even when he does reach a milestone in his growth and maturity, he falls back on his role as the child who needs Twilight to nurture him. And more often than not, she lets him, even if it's just one last time.

    I'm amazed everyone's answer isn't "Other."

Based on how I've seen their relationship over the seasons, the spin-off movies and even the theatrical released flick, I've definitely seen Twilight as the often stressed out yet hard-working older sister while Spike can be the laid-back younger brother who is often the voice of reason when she finds herself unsure of how to handle her issues. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I said mother and son less because of what they act like, and more because we know that Twilight hatched Spike and raised him from birth. If we don't know where his real mother is, then legally Twilight is the closest thing to it.

I would say big sister and little brother - or it's at least that feels closest to that kind of dynamic - their relationship always had that vibe. One definetely needs the other in day to day struggles - Spike needs Twi's help in certain situations for example when his more selfish instincts kick in, as well as Spike is needed to keep Twilight's OCD in check.

do you mean, "what I want their relationship to be" or "what does it really look like in the show"?
Because the answer to the second question is somewhere between "slave" and "pet".
