Black Panthers for me. Han Solo is the movie that dares to ask the question: We all know what Han Solo was like in his late twenties, but what about his mid-twenties?

Easy choice! Black Panther all the way. Ta Nehisi Coates writing the comic book brought me back to the medium after a long absence and T'Challa is a great character. Ryan Coogler did excellent work with Creed, I'm pleased to see he has co-written this too and the cast is fantastic. Finally, a Kendrick Lamar curated soundtrack is the icing on the cake. I haven't been so excited for a superhero movie since The Dark Knight Rises whereas the news about the Han Solo movie has done little to entice me.

While I am not really looking forward to either of these movies, I’ll throw in a vote for Black Panther for that Kendrick Lamar curated soundtrack alone. Would have been a different story if Phil Lord and Chris Miller had managed to get their vision past the Disney party poopers, but they got Edgar Wrighted, and I think that we’ll yet again be worse off for it.

Oh, I almost forgot Alex Garland's Annihilation.

Sorry to be a little bitch, but if I had to compile the list of most exciting new movies from big name American directors from now through March, this is what I would've chosen:
The 15:17 to Paris (Clint Eastwood)
Black Panther (Ryan Coogler)
A Wrinkle in Time (Ava DuVernay)
Isle of Dogs (Wes Anderson)
Unsane (Steven Soderbergh)
Ready Player One (Steven Spielberg)
It's no big deal, though. To each his own.

Come on! Of all of the Star Wars characters that merit a backstory film, Han Solo ranks low on the list, and certainly far below his trusty sidekick Chewbacca. And what about the backstory of R2-D2?? This just seems like such an unimaginative idea, given the alternative possibilities. Bring on the Panther!

I have to vote for Solo, here, because I'm utterly fatigued of superhero movies. While I enjoyed Wonder Woman immensely, the prospect of sitting through another origin story of another superhero character who will eventually battle and defeat another supervillain just doesn't appeal to me. I have high hopes for Solo; I thought Rogue One was the best Star Wars film since the original trilogy. Let's hope Solo is as creative and refreshing as Rogue One was!

There's every logical reason to vote for Black Panther in this poll: more interesting director, better cast, less troubled production, greater potential for diverse voices to be heard, etc., etc., etc.
Screw the logic, and search your feelings. I would rather see a Star Wars film over another MCU film any day. And while I'm in the minority, I know I'm not alone.
Do not underestimate the power of a Lawrence Kasdan Star Wars script.

Black Panther for sure. Even if I wasn't genuinely excited for Black Panther the most excitement I can muster for Solo is in seeing what kind of smoldering wreckage we end up getting after all the delays and reshoots.

It’s definitely Black Panther for me. Although I’m sure I’ll enjoy Solo as well it’s just not as vital or exciting as I believe Black Panther will be. We need and deserve an (almost) all black cast with a black hero directed by a black person way more than we need another film like Solo. No disrespect to Ron Howard or the Star Wars franchise of course. But we just saw one. I’m cool with a break.

Black Panther! Easy choice. One looks intriguing and fresh despite being part of a cinematic universe that pumps out 2 or 3 movies a year. The other is completely unnecessary, rife with controversy and which whole reason for existing is to ameliorate the anger of a fanbase who was angered by the previous installment (Rogue One)...(although Last Jedi could be included in there as well now).

While I am looking forward to both these films, the choice is clear to me. Black Panther looks fresh and new and vibrant. The trailers have shown us glimpses of the nation of Wakanda and it looks amazing! I welcome the opportunity to explore this strange new world. In contrast, Solo is a (say it with me) Star Wars prequel. And as much as I know it will be fun to see the Millenium Falcon make the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs, etc, it just feels like Solo will be doodling in the margins, filling in the backstory. Black Panther looks more bold to me, going forward. Henrik Hansen - Yalding, Kent UK
