How attractive do you see Mexico as a place to invest?

I too, have been coming to Mexico for 30 years. I love the country, and the Mexican people.
Eight years ago I bought a piece of land in paradise on the Oaxaca coast. The title of course is in the name of a Mexican citizen, an honest one I hope .... Just as we were getting ready to build our retirement Casa having eyes and ears on the political situation my wife and I were starting have second thoughts about proceeding.
With the utter lack of political will to deal with the ubiquitous corruption, cartels expanding to previously untouched, safe areas and the way the Mexican government disregards its honest, hardworking people we are just sitting on the fence while the situation seems to be getting worst instead of better.
Unless a miracle happens hopefully with a new president we will be selling the land. Ecuador seems like a breath of fresh air compared to the mess here. I do say this with a heavy heart because as I said before I loved the old Mexico!

I bought my house 7 years ago in Cancun, a year before I bought I tried to find out if the average hardworking Mexican would steal from me. I went to stores, coffee shops, restaurants and city buses Etc and when purchasing would open my hand to offer more money than was needed and pretended not to know how much was in my hand and guess what NO ONE took more than was needed even when putting my hand out again as if i had not paid enough. Now most people reading this will say this is pure bullshit, if so don't take my word, try it for yourself, You will be surprised. Now I know if you put $20 down in the middle of any street in any town on earth yes I can assure you it will be gone the next day. Bad News sells very well much better than good news that is why you see so much of it on the news. I know because the city I am from Detroit gets very bad reviews even though the City is in the middle of a turn around. Please keep things in prospective and don't just read and dwell on the bad news only. Mexico is a nice place to live and yes they have their issues but I also see them working on fixing them. Just be patient. Enjoy the sunshine... See you on the beach Dave Eden

If constitutional changes could be made whereby more power was given to the states, including taxation and expenditure, then at least investors would have the option of investing in those states who did the best job in upholding law and order, public security, honest government and the creation of a business friendly environment. Also, they should drop their protectionist nonsense on restricting foreign ownership rights, there is absolutely no merit to maintaining the fidei comiso practice which is nothing less than extortion with no benefits to the so called beneficiaries. Teddy Roosevelt is unlikely to invade Mexico through Vera Cruz and the time is well overdue for this practice to cease. There is no better friend of Mexico than the "Gringo" who loves the country and who volunteers time and money to a host of causes. The United States of Mexico is a fiction that has never existed in reality and by devolving power to the states would be a long overdue recognition of regional cultures and wish to be be self-governing as far as daily life is concerned. I respect and admire the regular Mexican who I believe can do a much better job than the central Federal Government in forwarding the best interests of community and state.

Corruption and lack of adherence to laws make it a Wild West play

Sadly I do not recommend for any foreigners to buy a home much let alone invest in Mexico. Been coming here for 25 years. Changing for the worse and sadly I see not end in sight in the near future. I am selling.

Acquired property here in 2008, built and retired here last year. Having serious 2nd thoughts and may sell and move back to the US. Sad, used to love being in Mexico, but it is now too dangerous.

The corruption is intolerable. I pulled my interests out of Baja and have no interest in ever returning. They steal at every turn and lie and cheat like no tomorrow. I'm done with it!

Too much corruption and drugs right now. Also it is difficult with the fidei commisso. If they dropped that it might be worth it.
