When a female mayor has an affair and causes such a commotion in public office where the City is looking over there shoulders to see what's coming out next on her...
This shouldn't be the way an elected leader should behave. The fact she let it go on for several years and only came forward when she got caught... after all she was scheduled to go to New York with her bodyguard for the Grammys , only canceling after having found out... she was found out.... and somehow word must have got out that it was getting ready to fly about the affair... she had to be truthful..otherwise she would have kept on going... It's really sad and a shame that after loosing her son, now this episode "Sex Scandal".. ????
Makes people wonder what has Nashville really got in a leadership role to lead the city...
Someone who makes up their own rules and serves themselves?????
    Basically a Fruit Loop????????

Amen Mr. Kenny! It is for sure being processed with a double standard. If the Mayor were a male, the Ethics Commission would have already processed and completed an investigation, he would not have been in office or paid from the beginning(last Wednesday), and he would be wearing an orange jump suit and hand cuffs right now! Also, I think Forrest should be brought back into the picture, his retirement or quitting not be processed, and he should be processed and investigated as if he were still working. This way, anything he would possibly loose if he hadn't of retired, he would loose. And this comes out of nowhere, but if this mayor were smart enough, why wouldn't she look at her security's overtime and the notice the excess he is being paid now and in the past and say hmmmmm.......maybe we should set his pay to salary rather than hourly that way he doesn't get paid overtime (if it's above a certain amount) and save tax dollars for future plans and tax payers?

  • Kenny Morrow - 6 years ago

I'm of the firm belief that if Mayor Barry was a male Republican, the clamor for removal from office would be so deafening as to eclipse all other news reporting. Just say "NO" to double standards...

  • Pamela - 6 years ago

Really, the ones of you are saying yes....she can do her job. It's about what's wrong.
OUR YOITH IS OUR FUTURE, WHST DOES THAT TELL THEM. " It's okay do things wrong, heck with mortality, and steal all the money you want from the taxpayers"..
GET HER OUT OF OFFICE. ITS NOT JUST THE AFFAIR. ITS THE PRINCIPAL

  • Theresa - 6 years ago

She had an affair 2 months after she was sworn into office. Megan Barry is a polished politician she knows what she's doing and she knows the right words to say to the people of Nashville she's doing nothing for the community as far as Nashville Ian's that's been here and stayed in Nashville for over 30 years she's doing nothing for the homeless All She Wants To Do Is build build build downtown where it's more expensive for people like us that live in Nashville downtown is getting so expensive that everywhere you go it's crowded and overcrowded and you can never find a parking just to go downtown that's why with my family and I that's been here in Nashville have to move to different County because it is so expensive to live in Nashville Megan Barry knew what she was doing I mean we're all grown people we know what we do every day in life she's married to a husband he's married to his wife and you don't think people will watch that and look at that differently because of them having an affair it doesn't matter if your man having an affair or a woman having an affair we shouldn't have to just slap on the hands and say oh it's okay you'll be fine it's humiliating in the state of Tennessee . When Phil Williams interviewed her on news channel 5 and then she had an appearance that evening she said the same thing from her interview . She cannot walk around Nashville being in the mirror and people looking at her and giving her ugly looks because of what she's done and she's not thinking about the man that she had an affair with his family his wife and his children it's humiliating that his wife and his kids have to go out in public and they know who she is and it's humiliating to show your face knowing what happened.. to be honest she should be ashamed of herself.. what I don't understand is why didn't they appoint her a female bodyguard why does it have to be a man it makes no sense and people want to praise that it's okay no it's not okay

  • Commonsense - 6 years ago

First off, whoever commented,"If her husband can't trust her who can?", is 100% right. She is not trustworthy at all! Second, whoever commented, if it was an affair below Mayor Barry between a boss and their subordinate, she would fire them is also 100% right. Also, inside just about any company, if a boss has an affair with a subordinate then the boss will lose their job. I'm not sure if it is the same way in city government but I would think it is. It should atleast be respected the same way, considering that just about every citizen paying the taxes to make her paycheck has to follow that same policy with their own job. Last, the most irritating part to me is that if it were a male mayor that had cheated with a female who is head of his security, he would be forced to resign from the beginning. But, she specifically says she is not going to resign? That's disrespect to the fighters of discrimination, making it appear that discrimination only goes one way. Basically saying if it's a man, yes you will step down. But since it is a woman, no I don't have too. All in all, she should resign and resign now!

  • JoSixPak - 6 years ago

She is either: (1) corrupt and taking taxpayers for a ride, or (2) is mentally ill to the point that she risked everything for a sausage.

Either way, she is not fit for office and must be removed. Metro Councilpersons: step forward and do the right thing.

  • Meagan Hatesvets - 6 years ago

She was trying to take land from Ft Negly (Greer Stadium) and sell it out from under them to a developer who would line her pockets. During this process a free veteran event was to be held at Ft Negly park. Mayer Megan was too busy with money and affairs and tried to make the event impossible. At one point asked “why do we need this event, it’s not Veterans Day.” The people of nashville especially veterans are not priority. Mass transit and several other tax waste efforts which line pockets. You want mass transit failure, check true profits of nashville star train, Detroit people mover.

  • barbara Mckeever - 6 years ago

I think this is a personal matter between her and spouse, I respect her courage, and know she will continue to do a good job as mayor. You never know whats she may be going through in her personal life and really it is not the public business "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE"

  • Nathan B - 6 years ago

Mayor, please don't put Nashville through this. Time to resign. You have lost the public trust. Every time you look into the public's faces you will see and feel what they are thinking. Why in the world did you make this public. Everyone makes mistakes, including me. At least mine is not on national news. Drudge Report, OMG. Do the best for Nashville. Repair you life and move on. God Bless You

  • Sandy - 6 years ago

I don’t see cheating Donald Trump resigning... Mayor Berry has been doing a good job. As long as she has not used city money inappropriately and her retired security chief was a willing partner and doesn’t claim #me too, I think she should continue doing a good job.

  • Teresa Thurman - 6 years ago

Leave her alone! And if this has been going on for two years she seems to be doing her job and doing it well!!!!!!

  • Cliff - 6 years ago

Pastor Jim, If you feel so adamant to your opinion why didn't you post the name of the church you pastor so people could come hear your mighty sermon this coming Sunday. I mean lets face it I'm sure all the pastors over the decades never used tithe money towards their extra marital affairs. Never used tithe money to take friends out to lunch and use the church credit card and call it ministry. Never used their position for personal gain.
I spent almost 20 years as an ordained minister and worked in four different denominations and saw the same thing if not worse by religious leaders. Yet congregations were told that since he repented (after caught) they deserved a second chance because they were a "man of God".

  • Buttpymples - 6 years ago

@ Cliff: Who died and made you Elvis?

Also, please get help with your grammar and sentence structure—your post is almost unreadable. But, I did get the point—you are stupid.

  • Cliff - 6 years ago

I'm not surprised by some of the above mean spirited creepers hiding behind fake names while vomiting out toxic crap from their empty souls. If she was a man, the majority of these comments wouldn't even be written. Successful men have been having affairs since the beginning of time and led successfully so to state that she can't lead in a positive manner is ridiculous and idiotic.
I do not condone the extra marital affair by any means, however, to state she's no longer competent is outlandish.
Grow up and stop being trolls and narcissistic jerks.

  • Brent N - 6 years ago

Mayor Barry Deserves forgiveness. We all do.. But forgiveness is quite different from accountability. Her office requires a higher moral compass than porking her security guard while on payroll, behind her hubbys back, like a piece of trailer park trash.

She betrayed her own family. So why would anyone trust her not to betray The City of Nashville and it's tax dollars?

  • JoJohnston - 6 years ago

  • The fat lady sings. Will the other one resign? - 6 years ago

The state police have started the predictable investigation into Barry's apparent theft of public money. Let's invite them to do a complete audit of Metropolitan government while at it. How many on the council along with Barry took bribes to push this ten billion dollar trainwreck (now DOA).

The fat lady has sung, even if her twin continues to be mayor.

  • Joyce Neal - 6 years ago

She asked for forgiveness; God has forgiven her; I am willing to work with her; we have all sinned; Mayor Barry did what many have never done she went before the entire community, admitted her sin, asked for forgiveness; nothing more needs to be done other than for her to go back to work.

  • Military Brat - 6 years ago

Megan Barry needs to GO!! She is SO Arrogant and has lost All Respect from this City!! I have lived in Nashville my entire life and I will Not stop calling Our Governor, Mayor, State Representatives And City Council Members to Demand her Resignation!! I advise everyone else to do the same. Our Great City Deserves Better!! If Phil Williams from Channel 5 Investigates had not discovered her affair and Misuse of Our Tax $$Dollars, We would Not even know Any Of this Crap and she would have Continued with her Lies and Corruption today!! She has also Totally Misused her Position of Power and it should be noted that this is Sexual Misconduct in the Workplace! The #MeToo Movement should Now also Include HER Sexual Misconduct, But I fear that because she is a Woman and not a Man, it won’t be!!??? If not, that’s as Hypocritical as it gets, Folks, because she should now be labeled as a Sexual Predator within her Workplace! I feel confident that she has fired others, probably Men, within Metro, for doing the Same Indiscretions for which She, Herself, has done!!?? And yet she is So Arrogant and feels So Powerful, she Immediately stated that she would NOT be stepping down!!?? #Hypocrisy at it’s Finest!!! Do Our Great City Of Nashville a Favor, Ms. Barry, and RESIGN NOW!!!!

  • Rob - 6 years ago

If Megan Barry had any conscious she would resign. If she deceived her Husband for nearly 2 years how can the taxpayers of Nashville ever trust her with their money and their best interest at hand? It is obvious all she cared about was her personal gratification no matter at what cost. Any idiot can say I am sorry. She is nothing but a hypocrite and needs to go! She said God will forgive her, I am not so sure. Seems I read somewhere in some book where it said Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery. Does that ring a bell Megan???????

    Typical democrat.

  • JoSixPak - 6 years ago

Resign and pay back the money that you STOLE from taxpayers, you phat creep.

  • JoSixPak - 6 years ago

The fact that she refuses to resign is proof of her arrogance and corruption. She doesn't give a hoot about the people of Nashville.

If she were a man, the #Metoo lynching would already be complete. Double standard.

  • Pastor Jim - 6 years ago

Sins aside. Mayor Berry has lost trust and confidence. The details have so much to reveal. To think she was able to separate her sexual desires and preferential treatment from the duties as mayor is ludicrous. Her trysts were paid by taxpayers. To think they did not have sex on her numerous trips is laughable.

  • Sharon Puckett - 6 years ago

I expect News2 to dismantle this poll and comment section very soon. It's revealing too much pain against the news libs' favorite BFF democrat. Poof!! It will be gone soon.

  • Lived Here All My Life - 6 years ago

She did this at taxpayer expense!!!! Pay us back and resign!

  • If you want to retain any dignity.... - 6 years ago

Those of us who lived through Bill Boner know how this will play out: she'll stay in office , continue to become more and more of a joke, and will be a neutered and ineffective executive. The difference will be if the financial irregularities rise to the level of a crime but that is yet to be determined. It was noteworthy how lawyered up her apology was, though, so an investigation at a minimum is likely. As it is and from what we now know, if Mayor Barry wanted to retain a single shred of dignity she would follow the example of Ronnie Steine, resign immediately, do public service, and then return to public life. The probability is she will go on Dr. Phil and make an ass out of herself and further embarrass our beloved city.

  • WEST END - 6 years ago

Shame. She has brought shame to Nashville and her office. No excuse for her behavior. Having sex with a subordinate is wrong. She MUST go. She will never be effective

Leave her alone she stands up for the victims of this city, all these who are high and mighty cant relate. She is making our city a sanctuary place for dreamers.

  • Metro Employee - 6 years ago

Here in my metro office we are angry and disappointed. As a leader I know my career would be over has I ADMITTED what she did. Step aside.

  • Nashexpatriot - 6 years ago

I hope all you progressive nit witts who voted for her enjoy your New Nashville!

  • Buttpymples - 6 years ago

She would have immediately fired anyone on her staff that did this. But now, the slut arrogantly states that she will not resign.

Megan Barry is a fraud and a liar. Any Nashville councilperson who doesn't demand her resignation is the same.

  • Native Nashvillian - 6 years ago

She is not sorry. She us arrogantĺ. She doubled her boytiys overtime because she works so much, yeah right. Mayor Dean worked as much. She uses her position as a look at me opportunity. Well we are looking and you are disgusting. She certainly will never be as effective as a ethical leader would. Sex with an employee is never right. She could never defend one of her leaders caught in the same situation. If she didn't fire them then the public would be in an uproar. The same applies for her.

  • Guess who - 6 years ago

How does she have time for Nashville???
After travelling around the country/world boinking her boyfriend it sure didn't look like there was a lot of time left over for the city of Nashville. If I was a resident there, I would be mad as hell........and she didn't even have enough respect for the citizens to resign!!

#METOO harassers are falling. She is no better and must go. Her judgement is impaired. Our leaders are held to a high standard. She failed miserably. Having sex with someone who works for you is by design harassment. Step aside. Going forward she would be ineffective. Nashville deserves so much better. I'm sure the devil in the details and she won't stand. Her #METOO rhetoric now proves her a hypocrite. 2 years plus...this is more than a scandal. Going to Greece and having sex with her boy toy shortly after the city mourned her son is repugnant

  • Truth Be Told - 6 years ago

It's a sad day for our city. She should resign. Based on her refusal to answer the question I'm sure if there was still ongoing. I'll bet she felt safe and secure while screwing her security. Paris, Greece and other honeymoon spots. And what was that one expense that listed a $550.00 cab fare in Washington DC. No wonder she wants to raise taxes. Sorry, can't help but wonder if her son found about the affair. This woman is incredulous and has lost credibility. Politically she is done because her fake mea culpa didn't work. The slut is done. It will always be an issue especially when used as negative ammo from opponent's. Nashville deserves better. Plain and simple having sex with a subordinate is harassment. Imagine if the CEO of HCA was busted screwing one of his subordinates. They would be done. Saying she will stay in office t o serve Nashville is sheer artogance.

  • Buttpymples - 6 years ago

The bigger question we need to ask her boytoy: how does our hippopotamus mayor look in a thong?

  • Shay - 6 years ago

If this affair had involved Karl Dean and a female employee, with the #MeToo, he would have been forced out and she would have been vindicated as the victim. What makes this any different? She took a vow of marriage, she took a vow and pledge for being mayor. She violated that and broke both. If she had this happen to someone on her staff she would fire them. She needs to salvage some shred of some sort of integrity and resign. As the first female Nashville mayor she has brought shame to both her gender and the position. She cannot be effective remaining in her position as this "stigma" will hang on her for some time. And hey, what's up with being assigned another "male" security guard? Should it have been a female security guard given the "insatiable desires of her loins?" Do the right thing - MEGAN, step aside and GET OUT!

  • Pam - 6 years ago

Mayor Barry has not only lost my confidence, but she has lost my vote. She made a poor judgment personally and professionally and I thought she was a better person than that. While she may be forgiven, - apparently she cannot separate her personal feelings from her professionalism and no matter what she says, she cannot be totally focused on the job to which she was elected. Also as a former compliance officer, she should have known BETTER shame on her. She needs to step down and take care of cleaning up things in her own life, before taking on any responsibilities as to our city. She needs to get her personal house in order. Again, if she decides to remain in office, which I hope she does not, she has lost my vote.

Southwest has a nonstop to San Francisco Megan. Go be with your people. They will embrace you and your flaws. I think it’s a sanctuary city?

  • Rob - 6 years ago

Megan Berry is nothing but a double standard slut. I was surprised when I saw she had an affair with who she did. My bet was that is was going to be with a female. If congress men and directors are being forced to resign for inappropriate remarks or actions then an individual that is actually having sex in an affair while in public office should resign as well. She can never be trusted whether she says she is only human or not. With regards to her tunnel project, what a joke. When you see a MTA bus, it is normally empty or only a handful of people on board. What a waste of tax payer money!!!!!!!!!

  • William Bohall - 6 years ago

No problem from a personal standpoint. She had a need, he scratched it. Big deal...who cares? But the real problem is her job....she can not commit the time and energy needed in her job when she is attracted to uncontrollable sexual urges every 20 minutes. The fact this was continued over her entire time as mayor shows an inability and a lack of desire to end the affair. He resigned...big deal. He may have been with her yesterday. These feelings and desires wont go away...so the only alternative is to take her job as mayor away so she can concentrate on fulfilling her basic needs. He will have more time to please this needy lady...she will have more time to get satisfied and somebody else can lead the new Sin City into the future. Then everyone is happy. And the Nashville taxpayer hasn't blown a quarter of a million extra dollars on a true Nashville Predator !!!! Gives new meaning to Tennessee TITans. Will the name change from Nashville Sounds to Nashville "Moans" ??

Bad things happen but as long as it does not affect her running the city this is between her and her husband.
We all make mistakes and we accept responsibility I say SO WHAT! If this were a male no one would say boo.

  • Holly Walsh - 6 years ago

Mayor Barry neeeds to step down. I don’t say this because of an “affair”, but because it was an affair with someone who she supervises, does performance reviews on, and approves overtime for. It’s about misusing her position and putting doubt in the voters minds about her decision making and misuse of tax money. I was surprised to hear this morning on CBS that they took 9 business trips alone. Did we pay for a hotel room that he or she didn’t use, was it necessary to have a body guard on those trips? I am also disgusted because many other governors, mayors, congressmen, business leaders have resigned or were forced to when affairs with employees were uncovered. Just because you are a female doesn’t change things. She should be held to the same standard that male leaders are. You can’t do that and keep your job if you oversee their pay, work hours, performance reviews, etc. She is also an attorney with expertise in these matters. That should really make us worry about her judgment. Resign please.

I’m sure there are a lot of people in prison who will admit their sins - just forgive and let them out also

  • donna redding - 6 years ago

HEY HIPPOCRATES!! YEAH I'M TALKING TO YOU how can you vote for 45 and then turn around and say EVERYTHING HE HAS SAID AND DONE IS JUST "LOCKER ROOM TALK" OR BOYS JUST BEING BOYS" and then immediately condemn our mayor for doing FAR LESS than he has done. and to boot she apologized. Get a BRAIN!!! I forgive you Mayor Berry. you take some time to reflect and keep on keeping on. and help us get the worst man in the world out of the White House!!

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. NO BODY is perfect. Her personal life has nothing to do with the job she does, trying to make Nashville a better place. We have no right to judge anyone.

  • Cheryl Bruce - 6 years ago

It took guts to admit the affair and I commend our mayor for doing so. Unless you're perfect and without sin, then STFU. There are two families in pain and I am not going to judge her or Sgt. Forrest. I am praying that both families get through this. The trolls hiding behind the keyboard with their nasty comments, I'd love to see the skeletons in your closet. Would you want to be judged on your bad decisions?

Well i guess we can see how our property tax increase was spent. Bye Megan!

  • Howard Snyder - 6 years ago

The only thing possibly relevant to the public about this would be if their relationship interfered in any way with either of their jobs. Otherwise, it's nobody else's business. And that would be unchanged regardless of whether each of them is married, single, widowed, divorced, separated... whatever. The fact that it's "adultery" is strictly a private matter between Mayor Barry and her husband, and Sgt. Forrest and his wife.

  • Natalie - 6 years ago

do her the same as Casey Moreland can’t have these people running our city

  • Ugh - 6 years ago

I'm a fan of Mayor Barry and was disappointed to hear this story. Even more disappointing is the total lack of civility in these comments. The anonymity of the internet really brings out the worst in people. She's poured her heart and soul into this city and I hope she will be allowed to continue on.

But, we have a soccer team!!!

  • lisa - 6 years ago

REALLY? why should she resign. look at all Trump has said and done and he haven't resign. "why" should she.

  • Robot - 6 years ago

See how she avoided the question when did it end and her response was it's over 3 times. I hardly think it's over. C'mon that's why her lover resigned so he can continue to BANG HER

Did she say the affair was over with and is this just for public eyes probably still going on in her head sad for everyone

I have elected to come forward and admit that while employed at Metropolitan Public Works I, too, had a brief sexual affair with Mayor Barry. It mostly was oral and consisted mainly of car sex. The only travel involved was to the landfill and then back to drop her off at the courthouse. The truck admittedly belonged to the city, but the seven workers and I who pulled the train that one time were off the clock. Also, Megan and I got together only on my lunch break so most of our time together was on the road. Our relationship ended when some crazed cop brandished his service revolver at me and yelled obscenities at us both. Megan offered to have the guy fired. I opted to take long-term disability due to the PTSD and clap I suffered from our four-day fling. Nonetheless, I've enjoyed my retirement at 28 and believe you me you can do worse than Orange Beach!

For her to think she could continue to have such an affair for over two years and not get caught was not very intelligent at all. But I had already figured out she wasn't too smart. Some people think they can do ANYTHING and then just say "I'm Sorry" and all will be forgotten..... But it doesn't work that way. I believe in forgiveness but that still doesn't make her worthy of holding the office of Mayor, she should resign.

I'm rolling@ Paul. Please stop... I can't take it anymore.

I heard that Viagra is a beast.. No wonder she cheated.

Hey Megan.....Jerry Springer on line 1. If he pays you well maybe you pay back the taxpayers?

Should be a fun election next time. I wonder if this little story might come up and we get to relive it again.

Is that TMZ on line 3??

@Buttpymbles.. The affair lasted 2yrs and 4 months. Get your facts str8 before making an @$$ of yourself. Learn how to count Moron

  • Buttpymples - 6 years ago

Dishonest, lying piece of white trash who, probably should be indicted. Two and one-half years of screwing the person for whom she approved overtime is a CRIME.

    Big Girls need love too!!

  • Ken - 6 years ago

The only reason she came out and made an apology was because her back was against the wall, she could no longer cover it up... That was NOT an "honest" apology, she was trying to save her butt, she only did so out of desperation. For her to just act like it was an honest apology was yet another one of her many lies. She'll receive so much criticism and pressure because of this, I suspect she will step down within a couple of weeks, perhaps a couple of days ! .... :)

  • Gary - 6 years ago

Mayor Barry has disgraced the city of Nashville again! Much like Bill Boner did when he was Mayor. She not only cheated on her husband but the people of Nashville with her total lack of discretion as mayor but also having an affair with another city employee. Both on our city's payroll, and on taxpayers dollars, to have sex? Only when she was caught in her wrongdoing did she regretful, Really? Time for Megan Barry to go!

Mark it up as Boner Gate #2

  • Deana - 6 years ago

Maybe she should of spent more time looking for beds for the homeless in Nashville instead of beds for her security. Being the first female mayor, she should of kept the legs together to keep some respect for her elected position. smh

  • Cheryl - 6 years ago

If I found out my child's principal was having an affair with my daughter's teacher. I would demand their resignation. Mayor Berry has shamed Nashville. The harassed is a woman. Current climate touts the fact that if a person of power has sexual relations with a subordinate it can be considered harassment by nature. She needs to go
