I have SMETS1 units. Complete wast of space.
I will not move to SMETS2 any time soon!

Smart meters are a double edge sword. They are being offered as free with no impact on current contracts but when the time is right, they will impose them to over ride your current arrangements. My energy is used during the winter months as during the summer I live down on the coast. I give my supplier my annual usage in Kwh and agree a monthly direct debit. All that flies out of the window if they demand my usage based on monthly use rather than spreading it over 12 months. Ask yourself, do your wages vary month by month?

Initially I had wanted one but then I started to worry about the fact that I am pacemaker dependant due to a surgical error and the smart meter may run the battery down on the pacemaker which means that I would need to have a replacement sooner than the average 10 years that they last. But it does seem that everything is going wireless in the average house so that if the smart meter doesn't get me something else will! Lets hope that batteries substantially improve over the next few years especially for pacemakers. That may well be the case. Let's hope.

I was interested initially until I found out that if I changed suppliers, the functionality was lost. That wrecked the idea for me. Version 2 may offer the ability to use the meters with different suppliers but I will wait and see. Now if someone offerened me a water meter I would be far more interested as I am told it is not possible to go to an alternative supplier much as I would like to!
