Do you support the sale of military style rifles to the public?

Tell me why is an AR15 an "assault weapon" for civilians. But when the same make, and model AR15 at the same gun shop becomes an AR15 "patrol rifle", and is considered socially acceptable when a police officer buys one?

So "No CIVILIAN needs an assault rifle!"???

But it's okay for police to have them??? Why?

As a police officer myself I am a public servant I am not above the law. So if state or federal legislators want to pass laws that banned certain types of firearms and high-capacity magazines based only on an inaccurate stigma , those same restrictions should translate to police officers as well.

Conservatives need to pass a resolution that makes lawmakers and the president of the United States subject to the same BS gun control laws that civilians are subject to, and you will never have calls for gun control.

They tried making alcohol illegal.. it didn’t work
They tried making drugs illegal... it didn’t work
They created gun free zones ... it didn’t work
They made drunk driving illegal .. it didn’t work
They made texting while driving illegal.. didn’t work.

I know! Let’s pass MORE laws!!

Why do so many of these responses look familiar? Especially the ones from the folks who want to ban these firearms? I just landed here after I saw a link of Facebook (which probably explains why the vote totals are so high - this poll is all over FB right now), but I have seen some of these responses before, practically word for word, on other sites. Are the gun-banners astro-turfing their own polls just to stir things up and make it look like there is more support for banning than there actually is? It's strange, I tell you...

    and Mr. E,

the AR platform was never designed to "hunt elephants". It is essentially, a high powder cartridge that is the same as a .22.

elephants and the like are hunted with .460 nitro and up. educate yourself before you speak..

  • Trooper Sam - 6 years ago

Jed Kennedy: well, you can stop violence by perforating the person who is trying to use violence upon you or those you love.

    Yep, that’ll do it.

  • Kustom - 6 years ago

    I'll concede...

raise the minimum age to purchase a rifle (and important to note, the AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon) to 21,

and raise the voting age to 21 as well. The dems would lose all their groomed voting base. Winning!!!

Clearly bots are at work with this poll--what other WKRN poll has garnered this many votes for such a bad idea.

  • Mike - 6 years ago

I love the person above that wrote "Tell me again how you can use violence to end violence." Killing Hitler and the Nazis is one way. But there are many cases every day of people stopping assaults using their weapon. Violence is never going to go away just by ignoring it and believing that it doesn't exist.

  • Chuck - 6 years ago

Where is the outrage over the teenage deaths on our highways. 2,500 16-19 year drivers and passengers are killed annually, that is eight (8) kids per day. Why are the kids not boycotting classes, demanding gun bans, demanding immediate action from our state and federal representatives. I'll tell
you why, it would take away their privilege to drive, not a constitutional right, just by the stroke of a state governors pen. This total movement has nothing to do with school shootings, it is a movement using our school kids as pawns in an effort by the left to ban all guns.
Where is the outrage over the FBI's continued failures to follow protocols. This shooting could have been stopped months in advance based on 39 police visits to his home, complaints to the school teachers and the FBI. The system failed, not gun laws.

  • John stoker - 6 years ago

You know this poll will quickly disappear after these results are finalized lol.

  • E - 6 years ago

NRA sold you all a bill of goods. Nobody need a gun like this. Are you hunting elephants? Buy a hand gun and call it a day. Jesus Christ.

  • Constitutionalist - 6 years ago

To bad these kids can get this motivated for school and actually learn something.

The second amendment was created to give the people, who all were the militia back in those days, the good given right to defend themselves with as much force as was available to the government. And to give us the power to stop said government, should it ever try to rise yoo and become exactly like England did. A dictatorship. Or any other style, other than our republic.

It's really sad that the people who say we shouldn't judge by appearances are judging inanimate objects by their appearance.

While an AR may LOOK like a "military rifle" it is not. It doesn't function like a military rifle, it doesn't shoot like a military rifle, it is a SEMI automatic rifle, which means, one activation of the trigger, ONE shot. It is NOT a machine gun.

The AR is popular because it is a versatile platform, supporting calibers from .17 at the smallest, to .50 at the largest.

Finally, what part of "...shall not be infringed" do you not understand?

  • Neal - 6 years ago

Stop selling guns and just see how many untraced guns start being made in people's garages. This isn't Australia or England. This is The United States of America! There is enough weapons and ammo buried in the ground in this country to keep our right to bare arms!

  • Marsha - 6 years ago

I believe all military fire arms should stay in the military, and no one should be able to purchase them. They are for the military people not the public. Once you leave the service of the military you are no longer an active personnel. I also think all guns should be at the legal age of 21. You can not drink, buy cigars/ smokes go into bars buy alcohol until you are the legal age of 21 so why would any person able to buy guns at age 18. I blame the Florida laws for allowing the age to be 18-19 to buy guns.

  • Jack Callahan - 6 years ago

This poll is already biased in it's wording.
AR-15s are not Military rifles. They are NOT assault rifles.

Just because a rifle is black does not make it more deadly than a ranch rifle.
The only reason these are used over any number of other rifles is their cheap cost and popularity due to the ability to accessorize.

  • Matthew Gee - 6 years ago

Well duh! I even support citizens have fully automatic firearms and TANKS! Not just look-a-likes.

  • American Stupidity - 6 years ago

You are driving along and see a large building, it has an American Flag in the front, and a sign giving the name of the school. Inside that school are 300 to 400 children ages 5 to 10 years old. They sit there learning to read and write and are completely innocent to the ways of the world. They have their teachers, principals and other staff but are completely unprotected from those that would do evil in this world. That is complete INSANITY!! It could be a middle school, high school, it doesn't matter, there they sit without one iota of protection. These schools should have armed guards, just like airports, government buildings, news stations, but no we leave the most vulnerable of our society in buildings like sitting ducks.

When the murders occur what do the adults do? They start with what a gun looks like, more gun laws, idiotic polls such as this talking about mental health. While the ADULTS argue over their agenda the children continue to sit as open targets in the buildings we drive by every day. The building we stupidly send our children off to every day knowing not if they will return home because our society is so broken we cannot see the elephant in the room.

I cannot fathom what these children go through while they sit there helplessly being slaughtered because the ADULTS are so hell bent on their own political agenda. Stop this craziness and get our children armed protection NOW!!!

Think about this when you send your child to school tomorrow. When a nut shows up with a knife, gun or wants to run down you child with a car, WHO IS THERE TO PROTECT THEM?

  • "LooksLike" - 6 years ago

AR-15 "looks like" a military weapon. Stupidity at its finest. Just because someone "looks like" Hillary Clinton doesn't mean they are a lying, back stabbing, thieving piece of human waste.

  • Him - 6 years ago

What you define as "military style assault weapons" is a subjective definition applied to many firearms based on their cosmetic and ergonomic features. For years Pre-1910 the militarys weapon of choice was either bolt action rifles, black powder, or semiautomatic pistols.

  • James Madison - 6 years ago

  • Travis Arnott - 6 years ago

Putting racing stripes on a Prius does not make it a race car. AR's look like an M16 bit is not an assault rifle.

  • Johnny Bravo - 6 years ago

Do you blame McDonald's for obesity? Do you blame jack Daniels, Budweiser, or any other alcohol for drunk driving deaths? No? Then why blame a firearm for any incident? The one thing that is involved in any violent crime or "accident" such as drink driving deaths is that it would not happen if a HUMAN BEING didn't make poor choices. If you take out human involvement in any of these topics, it would end up being inanimate objects lying on the floor and nobody would be killed. I own several guns, and have my fair share of alcohol in my life. Neither of those things have killed while in my control, and certainly not on their own. I make the choices. I hunt with my rifles, not shoot up schools or night clubs. I drink when I have no plans of leaving, and if I must leave, someone else drives. You Vulcan not blame the tool for what it is used for. A gun doesn't kill anyone any more than a shovel digs a hole. If a person wants to use the tool in any certain way....it is the person's fault...not the tool.

  • Paolo - 6 years ago

Good thing an Armalite rifle design 15 isn't a military style rifle. It's a civilian rifle.

  • Duke 3D - 6 years ago

The weapon is an INANIMATE OBJECT and needs a HUMAN factor to operate. You cannot blame a TOOL for the evil in someones heart. I say we give jobs to retired military and law enforcement to be in schools. I support the sales and acquisition of MILITARY FIREARMS. GOD BLESS THE 2A! SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!

  • Dr Greg - 6 years ago

School shootings would end when bullying ends. This isn't about guns or mental illness. It's about people that have been so mistreated they need to retaliate. Teachers bully. Students bully. Siblings bully. Parents bully. If you allow your children to bully others punishment for their behavior will come. If schools don't stop teachers from bullying,it will get worse. Put metal detectors in all schools. All other hospital, govt bldg.,etc has them.

  • samspade - 6 years ago

ar15s are not assault rifles, they are not military grade weapons, the armed forces do not use them, they are the most popular rifle sold in america today with over 14 million of them in circulation, they are excellent choices for small game and varmint hunting and home defense, there is no constitutionally valid reason to outright ban them

  • Allan King - 6 years ago

Define Military style weapons better please , or are you just basing this on a certain aesthetic look, Civilian weapons and Military weapons in a lot of cases in regards to small arms are interchangeable. Many civilian caliber small arms and long rifles have a far higher capacity to kill or injure a human. What do you think a high end .300 308 + range will do to a human target.

The founders believed that if the government had it, the citizenry should have it too. They believed the citizenry should have a sufficient level of arms to maintain a healthy level of independence from any who would try to impose tryanny, including their own government.

  • APIIINJ - 6 years ago

The only difference between a huntng rifle and an AR - which you like to call a "military style" weapon is cosmetic.

All weapons can be used to "assualt". As can your hands, a hammer, a knife, a fork, a car, a chair, should I go on? Shall we start referring to knives as "rape knives"? Hammers as "a robbery bludgeon"? Barstools as "assault stools"? An inanimate object does not become an "assualt" instrument until someone picks it up and assaults someone.

  • Chris - 6 years ago

These aren't "military style" weapons because they are semi automatic not fully automatic. Bunch of liberal gun grabbers. Guess you're poll didn't work out like you'd hoped.

@Dinah typical braindead, leftist response, any time you aren't winning, "It was hacked!"

  • Cody - 6 years ago

Right...so the best way to stop mass shooters is to train everyone to shoot. What the hell? Why do you not realize that training a mass shooter to be accurate and to use their weapon more effectively is not a solution to stopping mass shootings? And banning rifles...there is seriously only one real way to piss enough people off to see a real civil war in 2018 or beyond, and that's to ban rifles. If your real goal is to save lives and stop the killing, and not simply take the "moral high ground" (whatever the hell that is) to attack and defeat your enemies (those redneck gun owners with their death wands), you would not be trying to light the only real fuse that could result in the U.S. Civil War 2.

And for the people who argue that our U.S. military stealth bombers and tanks and whatnot would wipe out a civil rebellion...how much bigger of a shit could you take on our troops? You're saying that U.S. soldiers would participate in the murder of American citizens over the enforcement of an arguable violation of the US constitution? Wow. So at least 2/3 of the military would simply refuse. I know this for an absolute fact. And on another point of the same argument, yeah, the planes, tanks and ships and big guns....they work for conventional warfare. A civil war would very much be a guerilla warfare event. Let's be honest, those middle eastern fellas lived in caves and had shitty and broken weapons, or stolen shit they didn't really know how to use, and they still managed to give our forces hell. When it comes to tactics, all that support don't mean a whole lot in a guerilla style war. Anyone who hides behind this argument is simply disclosing two things: 1) You are very unaware of why we took such heavy casualties in OEF. 2) You don't know many, if any, veterans, and seriously have no respect for veterans or the men and women who currently serve.

The AR-15 is here to stay, and while you might get some dialog on some tougher restrictions to purchase the rifle, such as maybe an increased age limit (18 to 21("Twenty-One to own a gun")), banning the rifle is simply unrealistic. All you will do is end up with REAL assault weapons on the street, because people will not stop seeking out and buying the rifle, and since it's illegal anyway, why stop at semi-auto? Trust me, if it doesn't end in civil war, it will end in a strong black market for firearms which honestly doesn't really exist much today, which is why you don't see much crime if any with actual full auto weapons. If you push all those rifles into the shade, I predict you will start getting the rates of fire you preach about in your horror stories.

The only answer to these mass shootings is bigger armed security budgets and bigger security forces. 309 armed officers at a school will stop ALL crime, not just mass shootings. No more fights, drugs or bullying, because an officer is patrolling every hall, the perimeter of the school and all other commons areas, standing and roving patrols. It will put a stop to this garbage most ricky tick, I can guarantee.

if there is this much of a favorable position in the general voting population why are there still anti firearm, anti 2A and anti constitution senators and representatives still in office?? esp in the senate, which is elected to a 6 year term. if the same percentage of voters used their votes as this poll in 4 years we could have a constitutional senate.

The same government that should be trusted with guns, as well as be vested with the power to confiscate them, is the one that did not follow up on the kid that threatened to shoot up a school not once, but twice. I will never give an inch to the opposition, because the opposition has one final goal: to ban all weapons from private hands. I'd rather contest with a killer with an AR-15 armed with the same weapon, than with a government with nothing more than a ballot that may or may not get counted.

  • GovHaslamLies - 6 years ago

When our worthless governor was Mayor of Knoxville he was a member of Bloombergs Mayors Against Guns. When he decided to run for Governor he resigned from that Anit Constitution group and joined the NRA. You see, in Knoxville bans on guns will get you elected, in the state as a whole you couldn't get elected dog catcher if you wanted guns banned.

While running for Governor Haslam stated he favored constitutional carry. After getting elected he has opposed constitutional carry at every turn.

These lying snakes should be held to their agenda after getting elected. People like Haslam believe in NOTHING. They have no integrity nor ethics whatsoever. They have one goal and that is to increase their bank accounts through legislation and off the backs of the workers of this state. I cannot stand the sight of that lying scumbag. I do not believe a word he says because he has proven he is a liar. Haslam is the poster boy for the term RINO.

Message for the brain dead left: See this weapon? It's an AK-47 and was created by a guy by the name of Mikhail Kalashnikov... a Russian amorer. Variants of this weapon have been created all over Europe and the rest of the world. It's actually more reliable than the AR-15 and ammo can be found everywhere. The point here? I'll tell you because your minds are so indoctrinated by the Borg that you call the democrat party that it's absolutely impossible for you to think in any independent way or form. IF you were able to completely eliminate the 2nd Amendment you would achieve two things. 1. you would not stop the production of weapons like this. 2. You would exponentially increase the size of the black market.. which is where all the NON law abiding citizens and illegals can go to buy the weapon of their choice. So... until you realize that it's your way of thinking that is creating the problem... nothing else you do will change anything. Stop your socialist/communist anti America/Constitution behavior and pull your brown shirts out of our educational system and understand that until you cretins understand all of the above... nothing's going to change. Plan 2... get a lobotomy.

I'll bet that kid was beaten and bullied every day. I'll bet the people who beat him and bullied him enjoyed it. I'll bet they loved to press his buttons and loved the reaction he would give when pushed too far, with the exception of what eventually happened. Monsters aren't created overnight. If those kids want action, then here is what you do:
    1. Find the most odd kid, and offer to sit with them at lunch.
    2. Ask them how their day is, and listen to them. Maybe, all they want to do is talk to someone, and make friends.
    3. If you see someone bullying them, stand up to that punk, and let them know that is unacceptable.
    4. invite them to a gathering, to hang out, and if they show some anti-social behavior, cut them some slack, and be kind to them when you inform them that it wasn't acceptable, and that you still want to be their friend, but that won't be possible if they continue that.
    5. If they tell you they are sorry, forgive them and move on.
    6. Find a common interest.
    7. Encourage them in the good things they do.
    8. Be there for them.
A little kindness goes a long...long ways, and has been known to save lives, mostly from suicide.. If our kids took this action in every school, these school shootings would probably not happen anymore..

There’s nothing wrong with it. I use them all the time. Some of my friends say they trust me with my rifles because I’m military. Being military or LEO doesn’t make you a competent owner. I know some that don’t need them because how they treat the firearms. What sets me apart is how I care and handle my firearms and the fact that I’m always learning about them the function and proper and safe ways to utilize them. Our biggest focus should be encouraging, not mandating, firearms safety and use courses. I carry everywhere I go because you never know what might happen. I carry concealed of course. Always ready and safe.

Just because it looks like a military style weapon, doesn’t make it one. They shoot just like 70% of the rifles currently available on the market, one shot each time you pull the trigger.

  • James Justice - 6 years ago

YES, or course. There is nothing illegal about any firearm until someone commits a crime with it. And to be clear, calling this a "Military Style Rifle" is like calling a Prius a "Formula 1 style vehicle". They are VERY different than a military rifle, mainly they are not full auto, and a Prius does not have the horsepower of an F1 car ;) Sidenote: Any permitted civilian can own a full auto machine gun, as long as you have the financial means to buy one.

  • Docwatmo - 6 years ago

It's good to see so much common sense and strength of character here. The fact that 90%+ of pollsters support basic human rights is outstanding. Just a couple of points.

    1. "Military style weapons" are not available to the general public without extreme vetting, lots of hoops to jump through, extreme storage requirements, excessive taxing etc, etc. They are effectively banned and regulated more stringently than uranium.

    2. I vote yes to actual military style weapons to the public. We are already at an extreme disadvantage in the primary reason for owning firearms, defense against a tyrannical government and the prevention of another holocaust. The state has Tanks, Planes, Rockets, Bombs, etc, etc. We are already limited to Simple semi-auto firearms like the AR-15 (Which is not a military style weapon, it is just cosmetically similar). So we only have numbers on our side. So I would vote yes that any member of the public who can pass the background check should have access to full on military weapons, not just simple rifles.

  • Jamie Forbush - 6 years ago

I support the principles our founders espoused that we have the right to keep and bear arms and that government cannot infringe on that right because government doesn't grant unalienable rights to begin with. "Shall not be infringed" applies to all firearms and so all real machine guns (not just semi auto) the M16/M4 in fully automatic/select fire is certainly protected just as much as the basic AR-15. I and a growing number of many others are actively pushing for repeal/striking down/nullification of the 1934 National Firearms Act, 1968 Gun Control Act, and 1986 Hughes Amendment. They are unlawful infringements through taxation on a constitutional right as well as illegal ban on the part of the government.

  • Dylan - 6 years ago

Sure. But I also support states that want to do background checks or states that want to pass their own laws under the 10th amendment.

  • J. C. Salomon - 6 years ago

Just to be clear: when I voted “yes” I also meant actual military-grade weapons: M-60s and M-16s, not just “military style” AR-15s.

  • Erik - 6 years ago

First of all, military grade weapons aren't available on the civilian market, let's get that straight. But I'll play your stupid little game...

It should be MANDATORY that every citizen over 21 possess a weapon and is trained to use it. If a government can impose health insurance upon us and force us under penalty of law to purchase it then the same can be said for defending yourself and your health. Anyone refusing to do so would be penalized and fined in the same way we were fined for Obamacare. The cost of police and protecting the citizens of this nation is out of control which is the same argument used for Obamacare. We should not be at the mercy of criminals and let them ruin our health and that of our family members and fellow citizens. Contact your elected representatives and demand that we must protect ourselves for the good of the people.

  • N - 6 years ago

It should be compulsory as a citizen. Do you expect others to do all the fighting for you should the need arise to form a militia?

  • Tyranny - 6 years ago

    Tyranny
    a. The oppressive or unjust use of power: .
    b. arbitrary, unreasonable, or despotic behavior or use of authority:

We have a tyrannical government today. When my earnings are confiscated and used for abortion is tyranny. This violates my religious and constitutional rights as a citizen of this nation. To make me fund a government agenda that is against my beliefs is TYRANNY.

This nation went to Hades when Judges decided that the Constitution is a living document. Under that definition words have no meaning. Everything is to be interpreted however the interpreter sees fit to rule on the matter. We see it every day when judges decide to ignore law and impose their will over the will of the people. Illegals are the current POLITICALLY CORRECT interpretations. We cant deport them, cant cut off funding for them, cannot stop them from entering due to the rulings of UNELECTED JUDGES.

This country is headed to a bad place and under no circumstances will I ever surrender my weapons to oppose these Marxists and communists that are trying to bring down this nation.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Loaded question much? Getting real sick of gub illiterate journalists confusing the public. It's irresponsible and unethical.

Fun fact but military style weapons are in fact bot sold to the public. AR15s have never and will never be used in the military because they are civilian rifles. The military use an M16 platform that is capable of sem it auto, burst and full auto. AR15s are strictly semi auto

    The more you know...

Why do we have the 2nd Amendment? It is not for self defense, nor hunting, although those are legitimate reasons. No we have them to stop and oppressive government. The Founding Fathers saw how the standing Armies of Europe were used against the citizens and vowed to not let that happen in our new nation. A standing army is a tool of government and can be used by a government to enforce its rule in defiance of the wishes of the people.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." - Thomas Jefferson
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson

Amazing how easily people of this nation are willing to surrender their rights to an incompetent government that would impose it's will upon us if not for the fear of the armed citizens of this nation. Even Obama with his 60 vote majority in the Senate and majority in the House had better sense than to try to disarm we the people. Although he did try for controls so rigid that the majority of the citizens would never own one. Examples being Fast and Furious gun running agenda by Eric Holder. Selling of used brass to China to make ammo more expensive etc.

Do not EVER surrender your rights to an elitist government.

  • Googly - 6 years ago

Yes because in the 2A “Arms” means all Military weapons.

I love the fact that this poll shows the truth of the matter..

  • Matt - 6 years ago

An AR15, AR10, or any other AR style gun is not a military weapon. It is a regular semiautomatic rifle with an appearance package. That’s it!

  • philobeddoe - 6 years ago

Do you support the sale of military style rifles to the public?

    Yes I do.

Repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934.

Repeal the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968.

Repeal the Firearm Owners' Protection Act of 1986.

    Thank you.

Further proof of the stupidity of the socialist/communist (democrat) voter. They react to emotions rather than reality. As a young executive with a German based firm 40 years ago I travelled to Germany many times, I would have discussion with the older generation about Hitler and how he came to power. Without fail they would state that when Hitler required them to register their weapons, and then shortly thereafter confiscated them they were left defenseless. Today is a repeat of history. The socialist communist party wants group think. They show their colors with the Hollywierds holding Trumps severed head. The artist who painted Obama paints photos of blacks holding the severed heads of white people. Jesus in a jar of urine. They use the excuse of artistic freedom, intellectual freedom when it is nothing more than pure hatred of a capitalist system and hate of this nation. We are in a war of individual rights and freedom versus the group think everyone wears Mao overalls of these traitors to our values. From each according to his ability to each according to his needs in the new national motto. Guns have to go and then kneel to your master comrades.

Reading these comments, it is clear that several of you have little to no understanding of the purpose of the Second Amendment, its intent or who the Militia is that it refers to. If you don't know and are curious, look up US Code 10 Chapter 13 Section 311 and 312. As far regulating my Second Amendment rights regarding continuous training on my tax payer funded skills that Ive already acquired over the years, I will be happy to put away my privately owned weapon and occasional ammunition expenses in favor of tax payer funded: government issued rifle with select fire option (vs semiautomatic only now), monthly ammunition "allowance" of 500rds or so for training (and usage should I be called up for Militia duty per Second Amendment), current issued uniforms, boots, field gear, body armor, helmet, fragmentation and smoke grenades, a government funded shooting range and access to quarterly maintenance for issued weapon plus cleaning supplies. This doesnt take into account for and crew served weapons (typically an actual machine gun but could include anti tank weapons) should I or a fellow member of the US Militia choose to take on that roll instead.

The Second Amendment does serve two purposes at a minimum. To help protect our nation from both external threats as well as if our own government became a tyrannical to our own citizens.

On a side note, the definition of well regulated in the 1700's had a different connotation than it does in the late 1900' & early 2000's that we find ourselves living in today's world.

BanTheWeaponAgain, I am sorry but you know not what you speak. I can show you two rifles side by side and you would be perfectly fine with one but “Ban that” to the other one. The difference? One stock is made of wood and one is made of black polymer and look “Tactical”. Both shoot the same bullet, can hold the same magazines... essentially the same rifles the just look different. Please watch this, it’s funny but it’s not funny... https://youtu.be/SqJ_4YhYMhE The video is sad but true, the people who know the least about firearms are the quickest to judge what should be banned and 99% of the time it’s because of how it looks.

    What is "military style"?

This is the stupidity of polls these days. I bet a million dollars that this poll gets buried, why? Because despite the BS question, most people know there is no such thing as Military style but anti gun movement's want to make honest people victims. It's sick and sad

  • Common Sense - 6 years ago

@John you are a f’n idiot seriously. Any person in the military or police that would jump in with a group of radical scum wanting to overthrow the government would be guilty of treason and has no business being in that position. The military took an oath to uphold and defend the constitution. That part which states that a well regulated militia has a right to bare arms. It doesnt say every person born in America has a right to own one. Also if the congress could come together and change the constitution with 2 thirds vote they could re write the second amendment and it would be totally constitutional. You just mention the cops and military “jumping in” talking out of your ass and wtf is this new snowflake shit? What does that even mean? It is a shame that after the biggest f’n failure in history where little elementary school kids get slaughtered all of you are dense enough to argue the same shit. It makes me sick. You are indoctrinated. You argue the same garbage as before and it is because of people like yourself not wanting to change at all why kids are being slaughtered by the month. Snowflake out.

Military style would also include the Springfield 1903 bolt action.

  • BanTheWeaponAgain - 6 years ago

My son is in high school. My daughter is a teacher. I want all para-military weapons banned. If for some reason we can't get the ban reinstated, I want each and every para-military gun owner to have a friend Sponsor them to keep their weapon.
America requires immigrants to have a Sponsor; someone responsible for their welfare and close to them to ensure they conduct themselves within the law. In line with this, how many of these para-military enthusiasts have a friend or family member (that does not live with them) who would vouch for them with property or cash of their own to provide assurances the weapon would not be used to commit mass murder?
We, the public, need assurances. We can no longer rely on 'lone-wolf, mentally ill' males to regulate their need to kill. Your right 'to bear arms' does not supersede my child's right, my daughter's right, my teacher friends, or any one else's right to LIFE!
We're coming for the para-military weapons. We're going to find solutions to manage this problem of massacring children in their schools, people at concerts,, people in places of worship, people in theaters and wherever people congregate. We're going to save LIVES, and you law-abiding citizens that are TRULY law-abiding, you will be expected to comply; to do your part in helping to save LIVES.

  • wpa - 6 years ago

This is still America...........the American people have a right to DEFEND themselves from these killers as much as you don't think so. Your groups don't blame the gun when someone in Law Enforcement has to use their weapon.............you blame the cop. So start blaming the criminal shooter. What's the different from a school kid killing 17 or a member of ISIS?? Shoot those freakin criminals where they stand as the police responses. That might cut out these want to be's. No quarter, no I'm sorry. If we gonna take a serious move on these shootings...........start with the SHOOTER. The gun is just a tool, just like a hammer.

  • W - 6 years ago

Actually, since it is a RIGHT to keep and bear arms as opposed to Obamacare, Obamaphones, SNAP, WIC and subsidized housing the government is obligated to provide everyone with arms as an entitlement.

  • Kathy - 6 years ago

I'm a gun owner. with rights come responsibilities. that's what's missing from one side of this debate. t's amazing to me that the crowd that claims to be 'pro-life' are the ones who are fine with all the guns floating around. if folks really want to stop school shootings, the first step is to stop voting for members of the party that's fine with them. this can't be any clearer, Democrats want to do something to curb the horrible violence and republicans are fine with the status quo, shootings every five minutes, as long as their precious guns are protected. If you love your children, vote for the party that wants to protect your children! when did we become a country that loves its guns more than its children?????

    What a terrifying thread.

  • Douglas Andy - 6 years ago

Absolutely not, those scary looking guns are bad. I don't care that the previous"assault weapons" ban had zero impact on crime.

I don't care that despite the strictest gun laws in the country, places like Maryland, Illinois, California and such all suffer from crime beyond control but leave it's law abiding citizens nearly defenseless against the rising tide of crime and violence.

I don't care that cosmetic features have no bearing on a guns lethality or anything else.

    Save me from scary guns

  • AR15GOA was here. Our community helped out a little with your poll. You're welcome. BTW, the AR-15 is NOT a military style rifle. It's called America's Modern Sporting Rifle.
