Should the U.S. adopt Canadian-style gun laws?

I apologize for my ignorance of firearms. maybe designated days of cease fire would be more appropriate.

I voted no under protest. Should have been '.. won't stop mass killings.' Destroy every gun on earth and, like before guns were invented, mass killings will continue. Don't focus on guns focus on 'why are children now killing children?' This is a societal problem. Look in to that. Is it prescriptions? Bad values in movies and songs? Lack of accountability? The erosion of parental rights? Progressive schools? Social media ruining/enhancing reputations in seconds? Dystopian views? Fear of climate change and no future? Economic or race based issues? High stakes testing (you will never have a good life if you don't do better in school Timmy!) other stuff?
    All this stuff?
America had more guns per person 50 years ago so it isn't the guns. It's something else.
Have some real conversations or expect even more mass killings, guns or no guns.

Why is it that with all these debates, so many people lack the BASIC understanding of important/critical terms like Assault weapons, clips, magazines, etc. Before debating, can we at least make sure we all understand what these are? Here is a cheat sheet to get started:

Assault Weapon - A select fire weapon, which can be switched from full automatic fire (1 pull of the trigger fires numerous rounds until trigger is released) to semi-automatic fire (1 pull of the trigger = 1 round being shot). By definition, a semi-automatic rifle is NOT an assault weapon, because it uses the same system as described above (1 trigger pull = 1 round). Adding a plastic body around it or adding an extra grip does nothing to the firearm itself and does not magically make it an assault rifle or make it any more "deadly".

Magazine - This is where ammo is held and loaded in to the firearm.

Clip - Often associated with older military surplus riffles like the SKS (although far from the only one), a Clip is a metal piece similar to a rack where rounds can be "clipped" on, which is used to load the firearm. It is not "self contained", like a magazine. It is essentially a faster way (when used correctly) to load rounds in to a "clip compatible" firearm instead of loading 1 at a time.

Magazine clip - This does not exist. It has never existed. Folks who use this term lack basic understanding as detailed above.

"AR 15 stands for Assault Riffle 15" - No, it does not. AR is the company's brand name, Armalite Rifle.

Yes it is a privilege not a right to own a firearm here in Canada. but down in the states its a actual right in their Constitution just as much as right to free speech.
Scon a AR-15 is not an assault weapon it is in fact a semi automatic rifle much like almost firearms are even a muzzle loader is technically a semi automatic 1 squeeze of the trigger fires 1 bullet and by the way its called a Magazine or mag for short not a clip that feeds the ammunition to the fire arm

stop the sale of assault weapons and large clips, now. what you have, you can keep.

I think you will find that owning firearms in the USA, is a 'right'. The US Supreme Court has so decided via the 2nd Amendment. Justice Scalia wrote the Decision.
