Are you satisfied with the current playground speed zone rules?

30kmh in 'playground' zones makes sense. There has been plenty of study regarding the injuries caused at 50kmh vs 30kmh so there is at least some reasoning behind 30kmh. Reaction time on average for the masses will also be far greater at 30kmh vs 50kmh. Lot's of science to back it up. It's no secret that we have plenty of stupid drivers on the road and plenty of oblivious children near them. Some schools create serious traffic problems as well with people stopped and parked all over the place due to lack of area for parents to park when picking up children.

However, I challenge someone to come up with a functional argument as to why it should still be 50kmh over 30kmh.

So what ? It's going to take you an extra 60 seconds to get through the 'zone'. Chill out and relax ffs.

"Almost to the point you are a distracted driver" Seriously ? So you go to a place you have never driven before, now what ? Are you distracted because you have to read the road signs in a place you have never been, all while watching what you are doing behind the wheel ? Last I checked, understanding and reading road signage is pretty well a staple of getting your license. Heaven forbid you have to read some signage and follow what they say while operating your vehicle.

I totally agree with the other gentleman's comment. Kids need to be trained on safety about public roads and traffic with greater importance. Teachers and parents should take responsibility for that.

Speed limit in school zone is reasonable considering the crowd and traffic around school areas during peak hours.
But having a speed limit for playground is ridiculous where we have 6 ot 8 months of snow covered playgounds with no living creatures to be seen around. Even in summer months 30kms until 9PM for palyground zone is an overkill in my opinion.

This speed limit stuff is getting a tad out of hand people. It almost to the point that your a distracted driver by trying to comply with them. I don’t get it, or do I. Photo radar,,, yes making sense now! And the times your kidding me. This is all a big money grab, I can’t believe people are falling for this insanity.
But it’s a sure way to gain revenue. You have taken the safety rules away from what should be taught to our kids, and put it on the driver. We all slow down in school zones and pay more attention. But this speed zone and times need to be chucked.
Physical inferstructure, needs to be placed by the schools to ensure kids safety, and training to look both ways. Have a little responsibility on the kids too.
Hey hey, true , people don’t even break a stride at street corners, and often don’t even look around. Downtowns a perfect example, especially with the joggers in the river valley. These people are the product of those past generations, of not being responsible. Or accountable for their own safety. There is stupid on both sides of the steering wheel here,, you know it. Unfortunately, with consequences. This training of safety is being a forgotten expectation.
I live out of Edmonton, country folk is say. This speed zone stuff and the photo radar, I no longer do business in Edmonton, unless absolutely a requirement. This is effecting your dollar factor here, not much by myself, but I’m not alone here, there are others that don’t want to drive the gauntlet of speed traps.
Run a poll on the photo radar trap, are they out of hand, hmmm that statistic I would like to known.
Edmonton police service , politically has removed themselves from the situation, good for you bob. Public still blames them though.
The business of ticket revenues, mandated policies of the public should pay for the officers time, is a fact. Trust me it’s there, you get pulled over you will pay, no discretion there.
I’m a old guy , zero tickets zero issues with the law, but frankly I don’t like the police, they have changed, there more like bullies now. Thers been a diseperation between the public and police. Now if Edmonton continues with this way of policing and speed zones people I would hope say no. But, for now, who knows, some self directed idiot just wants to say and look good at the public’s expense, that’s the way I view it.
But, give them a raise, and tax more from the public, Canadians between the federal tax and the municipal, provincial taxes. How do they even make ends meet, both parents working less time for the kids,
I don’t agree with the speed zones, or the times in effect. It’s a money grab. Plain and simple.
