I was familiar with them from their first tune "Buy For Me The Rain", then I found myself in Viet Nam. A guy in my hootch was playing the "Uncle Charlie" album. I thought it was fantastic, I borrowed that tape a lot from him. It was the first album I bought when I got home and they've been my favorite band ever since.

Saw them again at The Kent Stage on 6/4/11. Took some pictures, combined with pics I took of shows from the 70's.

    Check them out at:

I caught you guys the first time at Willie's 2cnd annual picnic in College Staion in 1974. Loved your rendition of Murphy's Cosmic Cowboy. Since then I have seen ya'll 8 more times and counting. I gave you guys some cool Christian based CDS and books in Annapolis back in 2002. I had the VW bus parked out front which you might remember. I think my favorite LPS are All the Good Times, Uncle Charlie and all the Circle albums. I wish that Ibby was back with ya'll but that doesn't seem likely. I am a lifelong fan and neevr go long without playing some of your amazingly great music! Look forward to seeing you guys again and hopefully that will be soon! And a note to john if he is still doing the XM/Srius show it would be cool if you guys could get into their studio and recreate your uncle Charlie Album or All The Good Times.

I have been a loyal fan of the Dirt Band ever since I first heard their version of "Mr. Bojangles" back around 1970. Since then I have found and purchased every one of their albums. They are without a doubt in my top 5 all-time favorite bands.

My dad actually turned me on to you guys about 15 years ago...I have bought every album since then and look forward to seeing you in person soon. Never been to a concert yet. Will you be anywhere near Knoxville, Tennessee in the near future?

I'd love to see an "Official Song Book" of NGDB hits. If there was one I'd buy it in a snap as I'm sure every other fan would.

Reading the comments of your fans here, I'm reminded of the "old days" when Jimmy drew a "Murf the Surf" drawing on my Stanford Junior High School annual...and later when I sat out on the grass with Les on lunch breaks at Woodrow Wilson High School.
Was it the IceHouse where you had that first concert for your friends and fans? I can't remember the venue, but definitely remember the music! You guys have kept a special place in my heart...glad you're still at it.

first heard the NGDB in the early 70s, fell in love and never out again. I envy all of you living in the USA for being able to go to their concerts - I live in Germany and don't realy have anyone to share this fun with!
Nice to able to read all your comments.

I have been an avid Dirt Band fan since the 60's. I saw them at The Egg in Albany, NY in 2009 and saw John McEuen at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY more recently. Both excellent performances! Please, please, please come back to upstate NY soon! Love your music! God bless.

I hope you come back to South Dakota soon. We love ya out here. Thank you for inviting my brother Larry and I to eat with you before the Brookings, SD concert many years ago. Take care

Back in 1970 when I was attending Wagner College on Staten Island, NY, I had the pleasure of being the Student Producer of a show you did there one night. Besides making sure everything was as the Band wanted it I got to meet and just chat with all the guys...Les Thompson, Jimmy Ibbotson, Jeff Hanna, Jimmy McFadden, and of course, John McEuen. This was way back when both John and I had dark hair! They had just released a single with "Some of Shelley's Blues" on the A side and "Mr. Bojangles" on the B side and they were surprised but pleased that "Mr. Bojangles" had turned out to be a runaway hit. After the show, they told us that they were playing at a club in Manhattan called "Ungano's" the next night and they invited the production crew and their dates to come and join them as their guests. So, the next night several of us made the trek to see the Dirt Band and had a great time!

Jumping ahead 40 years, last year I was looking at the American Music Federation's website and they were auctioning off lots of celebrity memorabilia among which was a banjo autographed by all the members of the NGDB! To make a long story short, the bidding went higher and higher and soon it was just me and one other person placing the bids. At the urging of my wife I rode it out well into the 4-figures and finally won the auction. The banjo now sits proudly in my living room and I am slowly learning how to play it! But, I assure you, John McEuen, Earl Scruggs, and Steve Martin have nothing to worry about!

I had VIP tickets for Cerritos Theater so my wife could see ya live. It was your first gig for new CD. She has lung cancer and survived a death sentence. Very disappointed when show was cancel. NGBD and my band Yukon Railroad Co. go way back to early 70's in Colorado. I had a T shirt from your Russia tour on my wall. Some asswipe stole it. We almost made it but crashed our airplane in Breckenridge. Shammos O'Toole pulled us from the wreckage. We live in Palms Springs now and would love to bring my wife to a show. Something like the Little Bear in Evergreen. Name of news letter is " Fishin' in the Dirt" Fo Shizzle. Regard, GreenSprings.

Ever since the first release of "Buy For Me The Rain" back in the 1960's, I knew that I would always be a true dedicated fan of the Dirt Band, and praying that they never break up. The Dirt Band have always been my very favorite American Band, covering many Americana styles of music, such as: Bluegrass, Country, Folk, and Rock. They have a great sense of humor. Also, I would like to add that Jimmie Fadden is one of my favorite harmonica players. I had the honor of working with the Dirt Band back in the mid 1970's as their concert stage manager at the Capital Theater in Portchester, New York.

First concert - Burlington Vt.'s Memorial Hall. NGDB opened for an hour, Bill Cosby for an hour, then the DB greased up, for an hour! What a great introduction. Early 1971 I think! Last concert - Barre Vt.'s Opera House. Great show! Great seats! Great music!

You are my favorite band of all time. I recently had the immense pleasure of hearing you perform in Chatham, NJ, in the sanctuary. It was amazing. You are all truly talented (but you already know that). By the way, I think John and I share the same birthday, which is Dec 19. Please come back again soon.
