If kept to an analysis of his actions on the field, Roethlisberger is the better of the two. Eli is close, but Ben is better. Roethlisberger has played behind one of the poorest offensive lines in the NFL for most of his career. He has been battered and sacked more than any quarterback during the nine years he has played in the NFL. Jamie Dukes described the Steelers O-Line that won SB XLIII as the worst line ever to win a Super Bowl. I believe that is an accurate statement. No QB in NFL history has been able to take a beating for 59 minutes and then pull the game out in the last minute the way Ben has. (Contrary to the stat cited in this article, he has four more fourth quarter winning drives than Eli does.) Also, look at the receivers who appear to be stars when Ben is throwing to them (e.g. Burress & Holmes), but become mediocre when they take their show elsewhere. Eli is very good. But Ben is the reason the Steelers can compete for the SB every year, regardless of who provides his supporting cast.
